Lingonberries

A newly emerging fruiting plant which is exciting great interest due to the strongly antioxidant properties of the berries together with high vitamin content and delicious flavour! The berries themselves, along with the jellies and preserves they make, are currently being imported from Sweden, where they already greatly appreciated, and enjoy great popularity in specialist delicatessen and healthy food shops. But you can easily grow them yourself and it is a distinct advantage that the plant itself is so attractive and worthy of any garden. A low creeping evergreen shrub set with dark green glossy leaves, the pale pink and white fragrant bell shaped flowers appear over a long period. These in turn set to the bright claret red berries which nestle amongst the leaves like jewels… The fruits themselves can simply be lightly simmered with sugar and a little water, or juiced, made into jellies and preserves, or why not add some to your apple pie! The flavour is very refreshing, sharp and clean, a little similar to a Cranberry The strongly antioxidant properties help to combat infections and promote a healthy metabolism in the young and old and they are bursting with vitamins. Seldom did anything this good for you taste so delicious! The plant likes a peaty moist soil like that of the Blueberry or Azalea and can also be grown easily in pots using a standard ericaceous compost. they do not mind some shade. A very valuable, quite different and enjoyable fruit to grow.
