Enrich the soil with organic matter before planting, if growing in pots John Innes No. 2 or a similar soil based potting compost is ideal. Plant 10-12ft apart. Alter planting prune back to 12″ to promote vigorous new growth. After 3 years the plants should have fruited and filled their available space. Pinch back young shoots to 7 leaves beyond the last fruits during the summer, this will encourage the production of fruiting spurs for next year. The only other pruning that may be necessary is to thin congested growth during the winter, in later years.
