Blackcurrant Bushes

Welcome to our specialist range of blackcurrant bushes for sale. The blackcurrant bushes that we offer are all strong well rooted 2 year old bushes to ensure the best results possible in your garden.

THE NEW VARIETIES WITH FROST RESISTANCE The Scottish Crop Research Institute and East Malling Research Station have developed new varieties that tolerate adverse weather conditions, flower later to avoid spring frosts and crop heavily, consistently from year to year. Always producing a quality fruit and consistently outyielding the older varieties. We particularly recommend these blackcurrant bush varieties – Ben Sarek for it’s compact growth and big crops, Ben Connan for extra large berries, and Ben Nevis for hardy durability, yield and extra frost resistance.

Blackcurrant bushes should be planted 5-6’apart, except Ben Sarek which can be spaced as close as 3.5′ between bushes.

  • Jostaberry Blackcurrant Bushes

    £8.95

A recent introduction from Holland that is becoming rather popular. The jostaberry is a blackcurrant x gooseberry hybrid, with fruits that resemble a large blackcurrant.      A variety that was the predominant late variety some years ago but has become outclassed. Malling Jet remains however a good variety, and if you have grown it before you will probably want to do so again. The growth is vigorous and propductive and the dense clusters of glossy black fruits ripen in profusion all over the branches. The flavour is good and the berries will hang for some time without spoiling. An ideal variety to extend the season; heavy crops can be achieved. Somewhat frost resistant. £8.95

This newly offered Swedish variety could turn out to be the most frost resistant Blackcurrant of all and also has several other fine characteristics which make it a highly desirable garden variety. Titania also has useful disease resistance, including powdery mildew and rust. The individual berries are very large and handsome with a high juice content and plenty of flavour. They ripen very evenly on the string and keep well in perfect condition for some time on the bush. Ripening from early July, they are frequently still in crop by early August giving titania a very long season. The berries…

  • Noir de Bourgoigne Blackcurrant bush

    £8.95

This is a classic old French variety that remains little known in this country. It deserves wider appreciation, not least because the flavour surpasses almost any other Blackcurrant. Rich, sweet, aromatic and complex, it makes sensational pies, jams and preserves! The berries are suitable for all purposes and, however they are used, the flavour sets it apart. The bushes are quite compact and upright, easily managed; not the most heavily yielding variety but reliable and where flavour is important this variety is well worth considering. Mid season.  Photo is generic.
